One of the Messengers · Ilyas · إلياس
JudaismChristianityIslam

Ilyas, peace be upon him, is a messenger whom the Quran names in three verses, one of them in the form Ilyasin. He called his people away from Ba’l and toward the Lord of their fathers. The Quran is the final revelation, and it is the measure by which earlier books are read.

Named in the Quran
1.
“And Zechariah and John and Jesus and Elias - and all were of the righteous.”
Elias is among the righteous, with Zechariah, John, and Jesus.
2.
“And indeed, Elias was from among the messengers,”
“Indeed, Elias was from among the messengers.”
3.
“‘Peace upon Elias.’”
Peace upon Elias. The Arabic reads “Ilyasin,” which commentators take as a form of the name Ilyas.
